ASOS Meets (The Drums and CSS!)





ASOS the well known etailer has paired up with the coolest musicians around for a series of videos 'ASOS Meets.' Where we get to find what inspires them, what their style is and who are their favourite bands. 

CSS feel clothing should make you feel empowered - especially on stage. Adriano Cintra always found himself wanting to stay in his school uniform all day, his style icon was David Bowie go figure, hes not alone only I used listen to Bowie whilst wearing my uniform, usually in Math class. Luísa Hanae Matsushita aka Lovefoxxx,  loves her make up, it's fun. Lovefoxxx also wants to be naked on stage most of the time. CSS are playing at Manchester Academy in August, I've wanted to seen them for so long!

Ahh the Drums! Johnny is so cute. 'Denim? I wear denim everyday...' As a band the Drums feel it matters what they wear, which is anything pattened in a polo's buttoned to the top style in mustard or beetroot tones paired with dusty jeans. What they wear affects the story of their music, it has to fit. Clothing and music are very important partners.

The Drums music and style are influenced from bands such as the Ramones and the beloved Smiths.

I love how the ASOS videos have the handheld recording effect set in the crackling Nevada Desert home to Coachella (only the coolest festival in the world!)

I really love how street fashion is going through a oh so sixties transitional stage and that music is a main influence where anything goes at a festival, shopping vintage is a hobby and clashing prints is an art form.

Happy belated Birthday Morrissey!

 

22nd May marks the birth date of Manchesters one and only Charming man, Morrissey. A musical wizard, a proud vegetarian and fashion hero - both boys and girls are inspired. Whether it's the jean roll up, the iconic quiff or thick rimmed glasses, hes there, what a ledge.

My friend EMMA allowed me to style her a a boy, hair an all, for my androgynous theme for the final A level Graphics project. She's been referred to as Frankie, from Skins, fair to much for her liking ever since.

 My room is in the process of being made in to a grown up room starting with the bed, posh bedding and smooth furniture. This is my Smiths t if you haven't already noticed! As you can tell there is more work to be done such as cool wallpaper and grown up brown paints and alas no more spray painting or printing on my walls, it's for the best.

All credit goes to Opening Ceremony for their amazing love for the man, these amazing photos from Maryam L'Ange, Patrick O'Dell and Su Barber and Paul Sevigny, Ben Cho and Brian DeGraw amazing idea of holding, a now annual, Morrissey party, 'Night of a 1000 Morrisseys'.

 

My idol Chloë Sevigny is a key player in this event and I imagine has been to every one since 2003. It's amazing to see that Morrissey and the The Smiths have had such huge impact overseas, they're lyrics just never tire and no matter how whiney some people may spit, they're beautiful and I happen to find their songs upbeat that speak to the soul you can't help but not dance too. I always request on the kareoke This Charming Man, it just has to be done.

 My Smiths t I bought from Afflecks Palace in town, Manchester. I've worn it to college so many times I've really tried to not get lino printing ink or acrylic on Morrisseys' fod! I really love how you can see the Salford Lads Club in the background.

As I was in my room I thought I'd photograph some of the magazines I've got around my room. Some are very recent, June 2011s, where the Vogue is from 2008.The Dazed is exactly a year old. The May NYLON was with me at the time by the computer that's why it's not here!

The only designer piece I own! A real 80's vintage Givenchy jacket including shoulder pads. It's sooo big but I had to have it so I could wear it with a Morrissey style jean around Camden town!



MAY NYLON 2011

I finally got my first ever issue of Nylon! I'm a true magazine junkie and I must, by now, have at least a copy of every decent magazine on the new stand though I'm always discovering more! I just like to have them to get a feel of what different magazines are like. Some are very formal where some are all about the graphics.

June NYLON is out now but I'm still reading this and mountain of other magazines so whilst I'm trying to save the little cash I have, I think I'm going to cool it on the magazine front and stick to my subs: ELLE UK and Drapers. But I don't read Drapers, sometimes, mostly they stay in their packets. I do get round to them.... I'm just, preoccupied with Rory's hair..?

Overall I'm loving NYLON! Perhaps the name itself a little too much and in true fan girl style, I've been shamelessly carrying it with me EVERYWHERE! At the bus stops, whilst waiting for final piece Photography prints, at break time, night time, CSI time... I just like to hold it and show it to everyone, the normal folk who read Heat and OK. I laughed out loud today at the cover of Heat today, I don't knock gossip magazines, they're vital mags we all need to feel better about ourselves and I'll admit I was an avid New reader many eons ago.

Inside this issue of NYLON there was only one image of of Rory on his own but it's okay it's okay. It's the Hollywood issue I'm half way through reading, it's 34 pages long and having actually counted I now don't feel to bad about not reading it all yet and now understand I'm no where near half way through... They feature Dakota Blue Richards, Frankie from British skins, Rami Malek the very fit Egyptian lad in Night of the Museum (both films) and the already young comdey genius who never fails to amaze me let alone have me in stitches Will Poulter of School of Comedy.

I really like how the spreads are colourful, I adore the font, theres not so much text and when there is it's always about something or someone you need to know about and I love the fact that in their interviews they receive interesting answers such as 'I like weirdos' - 'Jessica Brown-Findlay or 'I just put together a lamp' - Rami Malek.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1992)

Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie (1992) has the most catchy soundtrack in the world. Randomly you will be trying to revise for English Language and one of their awesome songs used in the movie will pop into your head! I love it. When I was younger I was pretty morbid and into all things Buffy, Hocus Pocus and Beetlejuice, I actually used to think I was a vampire and asked my mum to call me Wednesday (from the Adams Family.. I know, she didn't)

The white shirt, matte leather biker jacket easily oozing badboy charm (lets face it he rides a motor bike) and the cutest hair you ever did see you can't help but love Pike!

I don't care how many times I watch Buffy the movie I will always cry when Merrick dies.

Liam Fray: The Courteeners

Liam Fray: The Courteeners

If you don't know who the luscious babe named Liam Fray is, now you do. With his Johnny Marr traditional Mancunian haircut, which is only rarely pulled off well, the Fray (Liam not the band) and the Courteeners (his band) are one of the best Manchester bands of today's rock/indie scene. I mean proper indie and notes of rock. What you would you call The Smiths or Joy Division genre, they were pretty rock n roll, minus the motorbikes and studs, the softer side of rock we called indie, but with shorter hair and better music than that say the kooks or the wombats.

It might just be me coming from such a scumbag city that I have therefore learnt, bit of psychology behaviourist for you there, that I am attracted to all bristl  lads things from the North West in clean gear (clothing). Or it just might be that we could mumble to one another and perfectly understand each other.

I'm asked far to many times to repeat myself when I go to London, haha I am very sorry. I drop my ts and if I can reduce the amount of times I open my mouth to talk, I will. I will also try and remember to refer to boys as boys, not lads. I say try. If you're familiar with Shameless I'm 20 minutes away from Gorton so life isn't to bad but I will guarantee that I will say 'do you know what I mean' at the end of eveything, I'll start every sentence with 'right' and say 'party' in a very funny, very catchy and very amazing way.

There are the glossy images above from photoshoots but I prefer mr Fray looking pretty gormless and nothing more than Northern. The photo below was at the GMEX gig in Manchester in December 2009 which I was at! Best gig I've been too. Back to the music.......

I must admit I've not been listening to their new stuff but I'm catching up on tumblr as I type. It turns out I have actually been listening to them all along just without realising it. They have a new sound and I like it. It's more softer than their original work but still as ever intelligently constructed, both lyrically and composed.

My mate Joseph has been to see them in the XFMs radio sets, or whatever it is I will have to ask him, won a chance to watch them play live in their London radio station then hang around with them in the after party. Theres like 20 people including the band and half of them work there, small crowd. Imagine sharing air.. never mind. So yeah he won it last year, and hes only gone and won it again for this year lucky sod. Very much doubt I'll be getting a plus one invite on that!

Arrested for marijuana possession

The youtube.com legend that was Antoine Dodson was arrested on Saturday for marijuana possession. Dodson was shortly released but was also found to have other enquires such as not turning up for court/speeding.

I'm as bigger fan of Dodson as he is of Gucci, see below.
